Maybe I’m in Over my Head

I started The Blackwells because I thought it was going to be an easy story I could write. I had developed a short outline that I should have stuck to. However, I wasn’t satisfied with that outline even when I began. And that outline has changed significantly along the way.

What I’m saying is I’m sort of out of my depth here.

I really should have written at least a first draft of The Blackwells before I started posting it on my blog.

So, I’m going to put that on hiatus for now.

I still intend to post original work every Monday and articles every Thursday. However, Monday posts will be short stories I have actually cleaned up and edited.

I’m not giving up on The Blackwells. The goal is to write a few drafts and get it polished up before I start posting it again.

This blog is a learning process to help me become a better writer. I want to thank you all for your support so far. I’m going to do better for you.

Let’s try this again…

Things got busy because I’m in school, and this blog fell by the wayside.

But, starting May 6th, I’ll be done with school forever, if I can at all help it.

And, because I haven’t been able to get a job related to my impending degree [whomp whomp], I’ll have more time to focus on this.

Starting May 6th, I’ll have a lot more time to focus not just on writing fiction, but writing articles, editing, and focusing on this blog. I’m gonna set up a posting schedule so that you can get some predictable content and to hold myself to task. If I can manager the word count, I plan on posting at least two fiction posts (right now, just The Blackwells, but I have another story up my sleeve – or just some one shot short stories) and one article post.

Until then, I’m going to faff about cleaning up the look of this blog, re-editing the previous posts (I did sort of just slap them up there in desperation), creating some art (not that I’m a particular artist, but I can’t hire anyone at the moment…[whomp whomp]), and creating a sort of unified look across my social media accounts. You know… try to fake the professional thing for a bit.

Keep an eye out for the changes, and thank you for being patient with me.

I have to admit, as much as I like The Blackwells, I’m finding myself disillusioned with it.

I think it’s a good story. I still want to pursue it, but I’ve been feeling meh about a lot of things lately.  I’m finishing school in five weeks, so that has been stressful, as has been job-hunting.

Now, once I do graduate and have a day job *fingers crossed* then I’ll be able to focus on this more. Which is good.

But I also want to do more fun stuff. Maybe short stories. One shots. That sort of thing.

Wish me luck. Come June, things will be better.

Long Pause

Sorry for the long pause. And the short post. I’ve had a few stressful weeks, and I haven’t been able to get my head back into writing.

I’ve also been working on other writing projects, but I’m working on getting more of this written, too.

Thank you for your patience.

Types of posts

I’ve been thinking about what all I can post here and how often.

Right now, I have a generic story I’m working on that I plan on posting at least once a week. My most ambitious schedule would have at four or five posts a week. It would look something like this:

Monday – ongoing homebrew story

Wednesday – writing article

Thursday – ongoing homebrew story

Saturday – a fun post of “weirdest queries” which would be an aggregated list of submitted weird google searches and research topics different writers have had to male

Sunday – a fun post of “editor notes” which would be an aggregated list of submitted amusing notes that writers, editors, and beta readers have made.

I know this is not something I can do right now (the last two would require that I have people making submissions). For each of the “story” days, I would want to post at least 1,000 words, and then there’s writing a decent article a week. I’m not as worried about the 2,000 words as I am putting together a well-researched article, although finding time to edit.

I’m also considering utilizing Archive of Our Own for completed chapters. It wouldn’t necessarily be a regular posting, but once I had finished a chapter, put it in full on AO3.

As it were, I’m entering the last semester of my degree and will also be job-searching during this time. At no point do I think I’ll be able to keep up a rigorous posting schedule until I’ve graduated and have settled into a decent job.

I want to treat this as a job. I want to dedicate time to this everyday. However, I only have a few more months of school. And, since I still have bills to pay, I need to put real effort into getting a job that can cover those bills.

If I’m very fortunate, I plan to, by June, be posting Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. (Saturday and Sunday posts depend on you people.)

Until then, my first story post will be no later than 2/4.

Thank you for your patience until then,
